Indications:

Used for the treatment of chronic respiratory disease (CRD) and avian cholera in poultry.


Pharmacological Action:

Pharmacodynamics:
Tilmicosin is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic developed for veterinary use. It exhibits similar antibacterial activity to tylosin but with greater potency against:

  • Gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus (including penicillin-resistant strains), Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus spp., Listeria, Bacillus anthracis, Erysipelothrix, and Clostridium spp.

  • Gram-negative bacteria: Pasteurella, Haemophilus, Neisseria, etc.

  • Mycoplasma spp., including Mycoplasma gallisepticum

Tilmicosin is especially effective against Pasteurella multocida and Mycoplasma, with stronger activity than tylosin.

Pharmacokinetics:

  • Rapid absorption after oral administration

  • Strong tissue penetration and large volume of distribution (>2 L/kg)

  • High lung tissue concentration

  • Long half-life: 1–2 days

  • Sustained effective blood concentration


Drug Interactions:

  1. Fatal in pigs when used with adrenaline

  2. Should not be combined with other macrolides or lincosamides due to shared targets

  3. May antagonize β-lactam antibiotics


Dosage and Administration:

  • Drinking water: 0.75 ml per 1 L of water for poultry

  • Duration: 3 consecutive days


Adverse Reactions:

  • May cause cardiotoxicity such as tachycardia and weakened myocardial contraction


Precautions:

  • Do not use in laying hens during the laying period


Withdrawal Period:

  • Chickens: 10 days
